Dog Sitting

For the majority of dog owners, the first priority is to enroll their new puppy in some sort of obedience dog training class. In these classes the puppy will learn how to react appropriately to everyday situations. Unfortunately such classes are not always a viable financial option for every owner, and indeed some owners would rather carry out their own obedience dog training, costs aside. What benefits can obedience dog training bring, and will it help my dog?

The Benefits of Obedience Dog Training

When you begin to train your new dog or puppy it is soon evident that they will quickly understand some simple instructions aks commands, however the problem now can be with YOU!! the owner, you must deliver commands in a authorative tone of voice, dont use the same voice that you use when praising your dog, even use the same facial and body emotions when training your dog, if you alternate between serious and play mode then its not fair on your dog, nor can you expect them to understand your personality. You must show your friendly personallity when your dog has done well, believe it or not they really want to please you.

Showing yourself in an authorative manner leads to one simple thing, and this is the key to obedience dog training and its no secret. Dogs are pack animals and they need to know who is the pack leader, if they can determine who is the leader they will make a bid for the role themselves. There should be only one pack leader and thats you, and certainly not the dog, dont even go there, dont them them think for one moment that they are in charge, believe me you will regret it.

Basic Commands – Obedience dog training will show your dog how to respond to the basic commands such as sit, stay, heel etc. These basic commands will give your dog the foundation for all future training.

Undesirable Behavior – Anti social behavior such as biting and or barking is a common complaint. There are different types of training for dogs exhibiting these behavioral patterns, and these problems are best tackled early on, before the undesirable behavior becomes a serious problem.

Walkies! – Pulling can be a major problem and is very common. Obedience dog training classes will give you the tools to tackle these problems, and soon the puppy will be walking to heel on the lead.

Teaching your dog even the most basic training is vitally important as your giving your dog the tools it need to be a sociable well adjusted dog, no matter what life may throw at it! It is better to do this at an early age but your dog can still be helped if it has behavior problems after 1 yr, as there are classes for older dogs too.

Continuing the good work

Obedience dog training can only be the beginning – Consistency is the key! Be sure your dog knows who the boss is. And don’t move the goal posts…follow what was learnt in the class and have all the family use the same commands!

And finally don’t deviate… be the leader, give simple direct commands or your dog will go back to his old ways and all your hard work will be in vain. Dog training should be a positive reassuring ongoing experience for your dog.
